I had Guillain-Barre syndrome, is it safe to get the COVID-19 vaccine?

Many people who have had Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS), a disease that affects the nervous system after a viral illness, wonder if they can safely get the COVID-19 vaccine.  In the clinical trials for Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, no one got Guillain-Barre.  Additionally, the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), the independent body that advises CDC on vaccine administration, does not list a history of GBS as a general contraindication for getting a vaccine with few exceptions.

Based on this, the CDC guidance is that people who have had GBS may receive COVID-19 vaccination without special precautions or concern.
