Can I get the COVID vaccine if I have Hashimoto’s disease?
It is safe for people who have Hashimoto’s Disease to get vaccinated.
The American Thyroid Association urges people with Hashimoto’s disease who are medically stable to get the COVID vaccines. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention also recommends vaccination for people with underlying conditions, including for people with autoimmune diseases like Hashimoto. In fact, people who are immunocompromised are now eligible for a third booster dose of Pfizer-BioNTech 6 months after full vaccination.
The only reason a person cannot safely get the vaccine is if they have had a severe allergic reaction called anaphylaxis to one of the components of the vaccine. If you are concerned about the safety of getting a vaccine due to your particular health condition, speak to your doctor.
