Should I Cancel My Trip to Europe?

No, you are not required to cancel your trip to Europe. However, even fully vaccinated travelers are at risk for getting and spreading COVID-19. With COVID cases on the rise and new restrictions in place, it is important to think about the risks and be prepared to adapt to local guidelines. Below are some prompts to consider before travelling.

COVID Risk in Destination

Check the CDC travel recommendation for your specific destination. Review the COVID-19 case rate there and the percent of the population that is vaccinated

Vaccination Status

The C.D.C. currently advises against international travel until a person is fully vaccinated. Check what vaccines are accepted at your destination and bring both your physical card and a digital copy.

Personal Preparedness

What is your own health/immune status? Consider different scenarios before leaving. Does your health insurance have overseas coverage? What will you do if you test positive on your trip? Be prepared for an unexpected quarantine period and bring extra of any medications you might need.

Entry Rules

Not all countries are allowing Americans to enter, so confirm the latest entry requirements for US citizens.

Testing Requirements

Many countries now require proof of a negative test in addition to proof of vaccination prior to entry. Some countries require PCR. tests, while others allow rapid antigen tests. Be sure to check both the airline regulations and country regulations prior to travel. Check when you should be tested relative to your arrival date and time.

Additionally, you will require a negative antigen or PCR test result prior to entry no more than 1 day before you travel by air into the United States. Confirm that an approved test is available at your destination.

Masks Mandates

Mask mandates vary by country and cities, so it’s smart to bring both multi-layer cloth and medical-grade masks. For example, you need N95s, KN95s, or FFP2s to ride public transport in Germany. Most airports and flights also require masks. If you are going to most places in Europe and the UK., be ready to mask up for indoor activities like dining.
