I’m pretty sure I have COVID-19. Now what?
Let’s start with the good news: Most people who get coronavirus (about 80%) will have mild to moderate symptoms and recover with no complications. So what do you do to treat your symptoms?
As of right now, there is no cure for COVID-19, but if your symptoms are mild, there is plenty you can do to make yourself more comfortable. If you have a fever or body aches, pain relievers, such as acetaminophen (Tylenol) or ibuprofen (Advil) can help. You can take cough medicines (expectorants like guaifenesin or suppressants like dextromethorphan) too. Drink lots of fluids and rest.
And perhaps most importantly, STAY HOME! Avoid all contact with other people. If you HAVE to be around others, wear a mask if you have one.
If you are someone at higher risk of developing severe infection, over age 60, pregnant, have a chronic medical condition, call your doctor to discuss whether you should be tested for COVID-19. If your symptoms worsen, call your doctor before showing up at the office.
